Sellers: Russians prefer big-screen phones with multiple cameras

MOSCOW, Dec 12 (PRIME) -- Russians have preferred smartphones with triple cameras and a screen diagonal over 5.5 inches, at least 64 GB of memory and the near-field communication (NFC) function for contactless payment in 2019, domestic big retailers told PRIME on Thursday.

Popularity of social networks raises demand to phone cameras, the sellers said.

Mobile operator MTS, which also runs own stores, said the share of smartphones with the display of more than 6 inches spiked to 46.3% from 5% over the recent 10 months. The share of devices with the NFC also increased.

One of the main expectations of 2020 will be smartphones supporting 5G.

“The market is anticipating commercial subscriber devices supporting 5G to appear in Russia. However, the speed of their launch fully depends on settlement of the question of availability of the 3.4–3.8 GHz band, the most suitable for 5G networks,” said a spokesperson for mobile operator T2 RTK Holding, working as Tele2, which also runs own retail chain.
